Eggnog Pudding Shots

I love eggnog and alcohol. So lets mix them!

This is so yummy. The alcohol isn't overwhelming but tastes so good and by changing the pudding you could have several varieties.

I found eggnog on sale for $1 quart so I bought it up lol

If you make I let me know what you think!

DIY Etched Cake Dome

A coworker got married recently. Their registry was full of gorgeous glass etched dots.
I bought them a cake dome/plate they registered for but thought it would be cool to etch it to match their other stuff.

I got the okay since etching it would make unreturnable. Then I dove in.
The goal was to match the Kate Spade glassware:

And Mikasa glassware:

I used my circuit and the Craft Room (online design studio) to create the contact paper for templates.
I actually just used the letter O in different sizes.
After the templates were cut. I cleaned the glass with alcohol.

I didn't measure the spacing for my dots. I put the largest on the bottom first. Put one on. Turned to the dome and matched it on the other side. I did that with all six dots.
Then the smaller ones just went up vertically.

The dots in the curve needed some tape to make sure the edges held down. Then it was time for etching.

I use armor etch. I apply it with an old paint brush. I also brushed it around after it was applied to make sure I got good coverage.

After about ten minutes or so I put gloves on and rinsed it off in my sink. The stickers come off in the rinsing usually too.

I love how it turned out. So much I have several pictures because I couldn't pick just one!

Glass etching is a really easy way to make a gift custom. Have you tried it before?

TMNT Party Ideas

A few days ago I showed you the cute Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle onsie I made for a first birthday party.

Well, I also made some cute decorations and cupcakes.

These cupcakes were just chocolate cupcakes. Store chocolate frosting. I drew on key lime marshmallows with edible markers to make the faces.

The toppers on the cupcakes were split Oreos.

I also found this great pin about using balloons and streamers. Of course, I thought-- I can do that!

Choose not to cut out the eyes. Was very easy to make. Everyone loved them!
I love Pinspiration!

When did you last plan a party? Did you use pinterest to help?

DIY Closet Lighting

Yesterday I showed you how great my closet ceiling looked sans popcorn.

Well a pretty ceiling needs pretty light too!

So I did some pinterest searching. You follow me right? Follow me!
Anyway. I found this great pin about using a basket and thought: I can do that!
The blogger who gives the tutorial is Liz Marie Blog.

My closet already had the base. I had a basket from Dollar Tree. I had silver spray paint. I only had to buy the extender. I also replaced the bulb. But that was preference, not need.

So this cost me $3!

I took off the old base and sprayed it silver.
{use caution with electricity and don't shock yourself}

I was able to cut the basket with nail clippers. And I put my extender in.

The extender was a cool idea but I had a hard time finding it in the store. It is where all the switches and electrical boxes are. It isn't with the lighting or bulbs.
Once I put it up. I loved it!
Here's a close up with the light off:

There you have it. Basket lighting.

Have you made any of your own lighting? I think I might do this same thing in my laundry room when I finally get to that project lol

I removed Popcorn Ceiling

I decided to model my bedroom. I would call it a remodel. But it's never been modeled.
And saying I'm decorating my bedroom makes it sound like it is just paint and a new comforter.
Those things are part of it. But there is so much more.

I spent the last week or so emptying the bedroom of all the furniture. And then I emptied the closet into the bedroom.

Let me tell you... You never realize how much STUFF you own until you move it all.

My closet is actually pretty big!

I don't really have a before picture of the popcorn ceiling. But we all know what it looks like. Chances are you could look up right now in your own home and see it.

Here is my after:

Doesn't it look good!
That is after it is scraped and painted.

I found this awesome pin that takes you to View Along the Way. I love that blog. Great stuff over there. I followed her how to and now have a beautiful closet ceiling.

I'll show you the DIY light fixture in my next post!

Manic Panic | Purple Haze

First, this is not a sponsored post. I just wanted to try out purple hair.

My hair is super dark brown almost black.

I did some googling and could not find out much about how it might turn out if I didn't lighten my hair like suggested.

It basically won't.

I tried to get a picture but my hair didnt even look different. Just dark brown.

In full sun there is a tint of purple that people will see if you point it out. Most people probably won't notice.

At work no one even noticed. I had sent my manager a spoof picture of a beautiful purple braid from my pinterest page. I think he was relieved it wasn't as bright as the picture.

I left the color on for 12 hours. So longer would not have made a difference IMHO.

Manic Panic has no harsh chemicals. It is made in the USA. It comes in lots of colors.

It made my hair feel really soft.

So now you know.
Will manic panic color dark brown hair without lightening it?

No, not like the box. It will just tint it.

Have you ever colored your hair a crazy color? How did it turn out?

TMNT Onsie | how to

You have noticed, but I love themes! I knew someone who wanted to have a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle first birthday party so I made this onsie for the birthday boy. It would be a cute Halloween costume too!

It was really easy to make.

I couldn't find a solid green onsie. So I bought a pack of white ones and some Rit dye. I also used freezer paper and my circuit.

I dyed the onsie green. It only took about 5 minutes. I followed the directions from the bottle. Let it dry overnight.

I cut the front and the back designs with my cricut. The onsie is a 12 mo onsie and the cut outs fit is perfectly. If
The link to the cut file is HERE it uses Design Studio. I hadnt converted to craft room yet.

You could do it by hand also. You cut the design from freezer paper. Place the freezer paper shiny side down and iron the paper to the onsie. This is the classic freezer paper method.

I put a piece of cardboard covered in plastic wrap inside the onsie to protect the paint from bleed through and dabbed the paint on. I read that if you water the paint down it keeps it from being so stiff. So I tried that and it seemed to work pretty well.

I decided once the freezer paper was off to not use the puff paint and outline the stencil.

It came out really cute. It fit him perfect.

I loved TMNT growing up so it was fun helping with this party. Watch for a few other things we did.

Chia Pet Dog Costume

It is October and that means costume time!

A friend asked me if I could make a Chia pet costume for her dog Harley. I'd seen it on pinterest so I said Sure!
Of course while making it I said "Cha Cha Cha Chia" about a million times. Lol

I provided her the link to the creator of the costume, The Flirty Girl, and her how to. You can find it here.

For the most part I followed her steps. The biggest difference was the plants I used.

She used plants intended for an aquarium. Read: expensive!
I found squares of artificial grass at The 99 Cent Only Store. score

I also did not cut the felt horse cloth and insert the grass. I sewed each piece on individually. The back of the cloth looked like this:

Each piece of the grass had a plastic hoop on the bottom so it made it easy to attach it. I would knot the thread after attaching a few.

It took 6 squares of grass. Each grass square had 64 pieces of grass. It was a lot of sewing. Lol. It took about 4 days of sewing while at work. So not bad.
Here's an in progress picture:

Remember how I said the aquatic plants were expensive... My friend had bought all the supplies {I was just the labor lol}. Each plant was about $6-$7. She had bought SIX based on the original how to suggestion.
Each square I used.... Cost 99 CENTS!

She was able to return all the aquatic plants to save that money!!

In the original how to she used a piece of elastic to connect the cute leg pieces on the back. I used scrap felt. One less thing to buy.

His little feet were super cute too. See:

Sadly Harley didn't win his costume contest. :-(
Do you dress your dog up? Do you usually make their costume?

And just because he's so cute here's a few more of Harley and Harley's mom, {my friend Shannon}.

Fall Postcard Exchange

I participated in a valentines card exchange and it was so much fun getting mail that wasn't bills and junk that I thought a fall exchange might be fun.
It is a little late in September for a Halloween one, in my opinion.

Before putting it together I'm trying to gauge interest.

How does an exchange work?
There is two weeks of sign up where you enter your name and address to a google form.
Once sign up is over the list is sent out to all who have signed up.
By signing up you are agreeing to send a post card to each person on the list. And in return you also receive one from each person on the list.
There is a deadline for sending the cards to make sure they are all sent around the same time.

If that sounds like sometime you'd like to do please comment below and let me know your interested.

Travel Tip | Pack your pillow

I'm visiting Tucson this week to spend time with my BFF Brittany.
You know B. She's found over at The Butterfly Mom.

Anyhoo, I drove this trip and that means I brought much more than needed. Suppose that's debatable.

But today's travel tip is travel gold. Bringing your pillow will help your mind feel at ease from the scent of home even if you only have your pillow case.

Great night sleeps are key for a great vacation.

Princess Castle Cake | How to

When my niece turned 4 she was enamored by princesses. Can you blame her?
She asked for a princess birthday naturally. Her mom was having the party at a kid friendly play place so that really only left the cake to make the theme.

She loved the cake. And my mom said she even saw a cake similar on TV recently. Cool, right.

I used box mix and store frosting. I didn't color anything. All the colors are straight from the store. Making this project easier for people without a lot of cake supplies.

The towers are ice cream cones. Two regular cones. One waffle. I dipped them in chocolate and while it was wet stacked them so as it dried it kept them together. The chocolate color was pink. It looks fleshy without extra details.
The waffle cones were rolled in pink sprinkles while the chocolate was wet.

To attach the towers I used a spoon to scoop away the corner is the cake. Added frosting and stuck it on. One tower needed toothpick reinforcement.

The princesses were puff stickers that I stuck onto a piece of hard plastic and cut around. I was going to use a clear cutting board from $Tree but they were out of stock. In the school supply aisle they had coupon organizers. They were the perfect thickness. I hit glued a lollipop stick to the princesses who stood on the cake. The princess on the ground were stuck in a dense cake mix.

My niece loved it. It took some time. But she is always worth it.
