Manic Panic | Purple Haze

First, this is not a sponsored post. I just wanted to try out purple hair. My hair is super dark brown almost black. I did some googling and could not find out much about how it might turn out if I didn't lighten my hair like suggested. It basically won't. I tried to get a picture but my hair didnt even look different. Just dark brown. In full sun there is a tint of purple that people will see if you point it out. Most people probably won't notice. At work no one even noticed. I had sent my manager a spoof picture of a beautiful purple braid from my pinterest page. I think he was relieved it wasn't as bright as the picture. I left the color on for 12 hours. So longer would not have made a difference IMHO. Manic Panic has no harsh chemicals. It is made in the USA. It comes in lots of colors. It made my hair feel really soft. So now you know. Will manic panic color dark brown hair without lightening it? No, not like the box. It will just tint

Homecoming Mums | Garters:: Guys need bling too

This is the last post in the Homecoming Mums series. For the list of posts see the bottom of the page. Homecoming Mums are great... but guys need to have bling too. Right? Apparently so, because guys wear a mini version of the mum and we call it a garter. The garter is worn on the arm with an arm band instead of on a shirt or around the neck. The concept and how you make it is the very same. You use the same backing, ribbons, trinkets. The garter and mum should match in style.But the garter is typically no longer than 18 inches.

Homecoming Mums | Making the Backing

Yesterday's post explained my version of the history behind Homecoming mums. Today's post is the first to get into the construction or how to build or make a Homecoming Mum. The first part to create is the backing, that is where the flower is attached. This is also what get attached to all the ribbon that hangs in the end. Before we get too far into this, you might be wondering what supplies you need. Michael's does a great job of giving you a basic list . They are also the store where I buy most of my Homecoming mum supplies. Mostly because of their large selection of trinkets and their specialty ribbons.

Homecoming Mums | Finishing the Mum

This is the finishing product we are working towards. This is all about adding a hanger, and finishing the mum. This part is easy and gives it the finished look that everyone wants Supplies for this part: Ribbon Hot glue gun and glue LOTS OF IT Staple gun and staples This post is more glue intensive that staple intensive ::grin::
