Use a Mix | Yellow Cake 2 Chocolate Cake

Have you ever needed a chocolate cake but you only had mixes for yellow or white? I had that problem a while back when I was making the cakes for my Dirt Bike Cake I talked about here.

I did some Googling and no one seemed to agree about whether you could convert a box mix from yellow to chocolate.

Well I am happy to tell you... you can and it will taste yummy!

It is very simple too.

Use your yellow or butter box mix of preference, follow instructions as listed and add::

  • 3 Tablespoons Baking Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Chocolate Syrup

I used Hersey's because that is what I had. But the kind you put on ice cream would work the same as the kind you put in milk.

Mix it all up like you would normally

The color is more of a carmel then a dark brown like traditional cake mix

The reviews were unanimous though. No one could tell the difference and they thought it was moist and delicious.

I have used it several times since. Now I often stock up on yellow cake mix instead of yellow and chocolate now that I know how to convert it.
Some might say it would be easier to make it from scratch. More power to you. I like my mixes.
